“It’s destiny, right?” – Pep Guardiola piles on praise for Oasis legend following new Manchester City kit release
Noel Gallagher has been credited by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola for the design work put in to the club’s brand new fourth kit for the 2024/25 season.
The new edition marks the 30th anniversary of Oasis’ iconic album ‘Definitely Maybe’, with the kit drawing inspiration in design from the album cover itself that ‘defined a generation’, according to a club statement issued last week.
Manchester City have also confirmed that the kit will only be worn in ‘select European fixtures’, with the first being against Inter Milan at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night in the club’s UEFA Champions League bow for the new campaign.
Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher, who was also involved in designing the kit, said upon its launch, “I loved City before anything. I was into City before I was into music – I was into City before I knew what music was.
“Definitely Maybe is what set us on our way. The record lasting as long [as it has]? You can’t predict that kind of thing. It’s a great working class, Mancunian record – it’s real. People say that thing of if you walked up to your 16-year-old self and said, ‘in 40 years you’ll be designing kits for the team’ you’d be like ‘what?’.
“When Puma approached us at one of the games about designing a kit, it took about five seconds to agree to it. It’s the same colour palette as the cover of Definitely Maybe: it’s unique but it’s definitely striking, and I think it looks great. When you see people representing your club – it’s important that they look good.”
Now speaking during a recent press conference, Pep Guardiola was keen to issue praise to Noel Gallagher for the work put in to designing Manchester City’s brand new fourth kit, which the City boss labelled as “so beautiful”.
“It was a good design. Apart from being a great, unbelievable musician, I think he’s a good designer as well,” Guardiola said of the Oasis star. “The kit is marvellous, it’s so beautiful, the colours and everything.”
The Catalan tactician continued, “It looks like it’s destiny, right? The moment that Oasis is back, he creates this fourth kit for our fans, for ourselves. So yeah, the destiny was there, together.”
As part of the promotional content around the launch, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss was also photographed with a guitar. However, Pep Guardiola was keen to insist on the fact that he is unable to play the instrument.
“If you see the pictures of (me with) the guitar, don’t think about that I was playing. Not at all!”

Manchester City will be hoping that the new kit brings them even greater fortunes this season, as the club remains on a 100 per cent winning streak in the Premier League and unbeaten across all competitions since the start of the season.
The latest scalp came in the Premier League, as the reigning Champions ensured that they will begin their contest against title contenders Arsenal as frontrunners next weekend via a two-point advantage.
