ESPN's Adam Schefter predicts OKC Thunder to win 2025 NBA Finals, makes bold bet
After a first-seed finish and a productive offseason, the Oklahoma City Thunder have become a popular choice as a championship favorite. That sentiment isn't exclusive to the NBA bubble, either.
To commemorate Adrian Wojnarowski's retirement, NBA Today hosted ESPN's lead insiders for a special segment to celebrate his lengthy media career. Adam Schefter, Jeff Passan and Pete Thamel all closed it out by predicting their 2025 NBA Finals matchup and winner.
The 2024-25 season is on the verge of starting, which means it's almost prediction time to see how the nine-month campaign will play out. The trio's championship series prediction was music to Thunder fans' ears. All three had them returning to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2012.
Schefter and Passan both had the Thunder over the Knicks. Thamel had the Celtics over the Thunder. Schefter even took it a step further and placed a silly bet that OKC would capture its first championship since its 2008 relocation.
"If they do go ahead and win it, I will officially be applying to take over Woj's job and become the new NBA insider," Schefter said.
Obviously, the NFL insider made that promise in a tongue-in-cheek sense, but it shows how strongly he feels about his prediction the Thunder will win the NBA championship this season. It's hard to blame him either.
The Thunder have built a strong roster headlined by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams. They are one of the best trios in the league. The additions of Isaiah Hartenstein and Alex Caruso further legitimizes their status among the league's elite.
Adam Schefter said if the Thunder win the championship this season he’ll switch to the NBA insider role lmao
