Former Bruins Defenseman Heading to KHL

According to Craig Morgan of PHNX Sports and Mikhail Zislis, former Boston Bruins defenseman Steven Kampfer is set to sign a one-year deal with Traktor Chelyabinsk of the KHL.

Kampfer, 35, has experience playing in the KHL, as he played for Kazan Ak-Bars during the 2021-22 season following his second stint as a Bruin. After posting 30 points in 46 KHL games, Kampfer returned to North America in 2022-23 and had stints with the Grand Rapids Griffins and Tucson Roadrunners. During this past season with the Roadrunners, the Ann Arbor, Michigan native had three goals, 22 points, and a minus-1 rating in 45 games.

Kampfer's last NHL appearance came during the 2020-21 season when he was a depth defender for the Bruins. Now, after three straight years in the AHL, he will once again be taking his talents to the KHL.

During his days with the Bruins, Kampfer was a serviceable seventh defenseman. In 113 career games over five seasons with the Bruins, Kampfer had 10 goals, 25 points, and a plus-14 rating.
