GC Track: Ja'Shaun Lloyd sets PRs in 110-and 300-hurdles in

Mar. 26—DALLAS — It was a short week for Corsicana's track and field programs, but Ja'Shaun Lloyd, one of the top hurdlers in Texas, made the most of it.

Lloyd not only won the 110-hurdles and the 300-hurdles but he set PRs in both events at the Jesuit Sheaner Relays at Jesuit High School in Dallas. He ran a 13.85 to win the 110s and won the 300-hurdles in 37.33 Saturday, scoring 20 team points for the Tigers in an incredibly loaded field of 39 teams in the boys 5A Meet.

"Ja'Shaun is one of the most competitive athletes I've ever coached," said longtime Tiger track & field Coach Wayne Braziel. "No matter what the competition, he is always rising to the occasion. But his work ethic is just as great and I think that's where he has the edge on a lot of other competitors.

"It's been exciting to watch him compete every week and he just continues to get better and better."

The Tigers finished ninth, beating 30 teams with Lloyd's 20-point performance. The Tigers were scheduled to run at the Ennis Bluebonnet Relays Thursday but the meet was canceled due to the weather. The Tigers won the Bluebonnet Relays last season.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers will both run at the Palestine Dogwood Relays Thursday and compete in the District 14-5A Meet April 2-5.

Lloyd won the district meet in both hurdles last season, taking his first step toward a memorable run to the 5A state meet in Austin, where he took second-place in the 110-hurdles and sixth in the 300-hurdles in the 5A state track & field meet at Mike Myers Stadium. He has not finished second in either event since, winning both at every meet this season.

Lloyd set PR 14.09 last spring in Austin to capture to the No. 2 spot in the state and give the Tigers their best performance on the track in a dozen years.

Tiger track legend Robert Atkinson won the 100-meter dash title at state in back-to-back years (2010 and in 2011) and now Lloyd has joined Atkinson as one of the best at CHS with his performance at state and his sterling season this spring, winning every 110- and 300-hurdle event in every meet.
