HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: Kinley, Gilbert and Jackson led Central at Warhawk Duals
Dec. 24—Jeffrey Kinley, Jonathan Gilbert and Kyran Jackson each went undefeated as Madison Central took third place at the Warhawk Duals on Dec. 18 in Georgetown.
The Indians picked up team victories over Taylor County (55-20), Floyd Central (36-33) and Scott High (69-6) in pool play. In the championship bracket, Central fell to No. 12 Conner (46-36) and No. 8 Great Crossing (55-21).
The Indians have a team dual record of 8-2 on the season.
Gilbert had victories over a pair of ranked opponents — No. 4 Leland Reeves (Taylor County) and No. 6 Rowdy Benner (Great Crossing).
Jackson defeated three wrestlers ranked in the Top 25.
Lucas Hutchinson beat No. 11 Aiden Zinser (Scott County).
Kinley had a win over No. 9 Joshua (Great Crossing) Strayer and Lacey Gilbert defeated No. 10 Jaxon Staggs (Great Crossing).
In the loss to Connor, Jonathan Gilbert (120), Logan Cantrel (138), Brady Worrix (150), Kinley (165), Thomas Ashford (175) and Jackson (285) earned wins.
Against Great Crossing, Kinley, Jackson, Lacey Gilbert (113) and Jonathan Gilbert earned wins.
Southern shines at Lafayette
The Madison Southern wrestling team turned in some impressive performances on Dec. 18 at the Lafayette 5-Star Invitational.
Senior Rocky Whitehead took first place in the 215-pound weight class.
Chris Begley was second in his division and Damian Kelley placed third.
