Jimmies men's soccer get 1-1 draw against Central Christian
Sep. 1—SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. — One day after taking zero shots on goal, the University of Jamestown men's soccer team had seven shots on goal and scored one goal in a 1-1 tie against Central Christian College on Friday, Sept. 1, at John Brown University's Alumni Field.
"I'm proud of how we responded to yesterday but wish we would've come away with three points," Jimmies head coach Connor Campbell said. "Now we need to string together more solid performances. It was a tough turnaround as we finished close to midnight last night and then had about 19 hours until kickoff. But the guys worked hard and most importantly improved from the first half to the second half in a way that was well-rounded and addressed a variety of needs for us to be successful this year."
In total, the Jimmies had seven shots on goal, from six different players with Boston Petersen leading the team with two shots on goal.
After a scoreless first half between the Jimmies (1-1-2) and the Tigers, both teams scored in a back-and-forth second half. The Jimmies drew a foul in a dangerous area and Frankie Parkinson scored from just outside the box to put his team up 1-0. The goal is Parkinson's first of the season and seventh of his career.
The Tigers (2-0-1) responded just under 10 minutes later when Johnny Rodriguez scored to tie the game up at one. It was an eventful day for Rodriguez as the junior had two shots on goal and was sent off in the 90th minute after a foul on a Jimmie.
The Jimmies are back in action at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, when they take on the University of Providence.
