Fresh off his foot-in-mouth war of the words over Jeremy Lin’s dreadlocks, Kenyon Martin aka the NBA’s Joe Budden is playing a game of brinksmanship with Lil B’s Based God curse. For the uninformed, the Lil B is a Bay Area rapper, positivity lecturer, author, composer, influencer and possibly a warlock. Back in the spring of 2011, Lil B cursed then-Oklahoma Thunder forward Kevin Durant for disrespecting his music and then turning down his request to settle the beef in a game of 1-on-1.

Most NBA historians point to this moment that the beginning of the end for the Thunder’s Harden-Durant-Westbrook-Ibaka era began.

Since then, The Based God curse has taken on a life of its own in the NBA’s pocket universe. It was only after Lil B reconciled with Durant that the four-time NBA scoring champ won his first MVP last summer. Coincidence? Probably not.

After Martin’s tirade against Lin, The Based God, who recently blessed seven NBA teams, responded by placing his apocryphal hex over the retired NBA forward.

Rather than show humility to The Based God, Martin was defiant in response telling TMZ Sports, “He don’t mean sh*t. He’s a nobody … I just turned 40. Life is good, man!”

Prides before a fall. We wish Kenyon the best, but he’s hard-headed and it’s not looking good for his 40s. This is one he might regret. Martin captained his Trilogy squad to a Big3 title over the summer, but if his teammates were smart, they’d distance themselves from Martin as soon as possible.
