Kickoff for Texas Tech football at Wyoming delayed by lightning
UPDATE: The game is now slated to begin at 7:48 p.m. CDT.
Planned kickoff now is 6:48 Laramie time/7:48 Lubbock time though the countdown clock is still on 40:00, so probably a little after that.

The Texas Tech football team will have to wait a little bit longer to start its 2023 season opener at Wyoming.
Lightning in the area of War Memorial Stadium in Laramie has forced the players and fans to clear the stadium.
Lightning has been reported in the area of War Memorial Stadium in Laramie. PA announcer says the game will be delayed. Commence clearing the stadium.

Kickoff was scheduled for approximately 6:30 p.m. Central Daylight Time. Per NCAA rules, lightning delays occur when lightning is detected within eight miles of the stadium.

Officials will monitor the weather and, if there are no further strikes in the eight-mile radius within 30 minutes, fans and players can return to the field.
The delay clock resets each time lightning is detected.
