Mendon handles Britton-Deerfield in comfortable fashion Friday
MENDON — Mendon wasted little time getting on the scoreboard Friday night at home.
The Hornets scored early and often in the team's first home game of the season, taking care of visiting Britton-Deerfield in a 66-14 win.
"We played very physical tonight on both sides of the football," Mendon coach Bobby Kretschman said. "Backs ran hard, and we took care of the ball. We played the Mendon way."

The Gorham brothers — Owen and Ryder — paced the Hornets in the opening half. They scored a combined six touchdowns in the opening two quarters. Owen found the end zone on a 26-yard run to open the scoring at the 9:23 mark of the first. Ryder scored on the next two Mendon possessions with runs of 40 and 30 yards to paydirt.
The Hornets led 24-0 after one as they scored on two-point conversions following all three touchdowns.
Owen would then score on a pair of lengthy runs, rumbling to the end zone. Those touchdowns came on runs of 65 and 50 yards, but both two-pointers failed. Still, Mendon led 36-0 early. Following a Britton-Deerfield TD, Owen scored again at the 1:57 mark, and Ryder added the conversion run.
Mendon scored with just eight seconds left in the second quarter on a three-yard run from JT Lux. Owen added the conversion run and led 52-8 at the break.
The Hornets put up a couple of touchdowns in the second half as well. Those runs came by Zak Iobe of 45 yards and Xavior Zinsmaster of one yard.
Mendon dominated the stat sheet in the game, as expected. The Hornets piled up 508 yards on the ground compared to 133 for Britton-Deerfield. Owen Gorham rumbled for 236 yards on 14 carries, while Ryder Gorham rushed six times for 114. Iobe rushed for 80 yards, and Zinsmaster added 55 yards.

Leading the defense was Nic Stiver, who recorded eight stops. Each of the Gorhams had four tackles, Lux made four as well.
Morenci 22, Colon 22
Colon dropped to 0-2 on the season with a tough 22-20 loss to Morenci on Friday night. A pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter gave Morenci the victory.
A two-yard carry by Talan Kruse and an 18-yard pass to Michael Rising gave Morenci its two touchdowns in the fourth.
Colon got on the board first, a 56-yard rumble from Garry Lord to get the Magi the lead. Kruse scored at the end of the second quarter, and they converted, putting Morenci up 8-6 after two quarters.
Colon took the lead late in the third. Jeremiah West scored on a 16-yard scamper, which capped a six-play, 49-yard drive to give the Magi a 12-8 edge. The final points of the game came with 1:30 left on a Lord seven-yard run.

The Magi led in total yards at 303-222. The Magi rushed for 178 on the night.
Lord led the way with 141 yards and two scores. Blake Vanderstraaten rushed for 21, and West added 19. West also completed seven passes for 125 yards, Owen Wilson caught five for 84 yard and Jonathan Wickey caught one for 38 yards. Carter Persons had one catch for three yards.
Jonny Greenwald made 12 stops, including two for loss, and he recovered a fumble. Wilson recorded 10 tackles, and Ayden Delp made nine stops.
Marcellus wins by forfeit
The Marcellus football team improved to 2-0 on the season with a forfeit victory over Bloomingdale on Friday. The Wildcats will travel to take on 2-0 Gobles next Friday.
Pittsford 48, Burr Oak 20
Burr Oak dropped its first game of the season to Pittsford on the road Friday, 48-20.
The Bobcats, now 1-1, will travel to take on North Adams-Jerome next Friday.
On Friday night, Braxton Boyles scored his first varsity touchdown on a scoop and score. Cohen Miller caught a touchdown pass, and Ethan Boyles scored on a scramble for a touchdown as well.
