NBC's Cris Collinsworth roasted after being 'blown away' that 'ladies' comprehend football
Cris Collinsworth is a divisive sportscaster.
NBC’s color commentator for NFL games draws praise from his fans for his analysis and scorn from his detractors who generally wish he would just shut up already.
Score a big one for his detractors.
During Wednesday’s Pittsburgh Steelers win over the Baltimore Ravens, Collinsworth talked with play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico about conversations he had with Steelers fans before the game. He revealed that he was “blown away” to learn that women are knowledgeable about football.
Collinsworth’s not-so great take
“Everybody’s a fan,” Collinsworth said. “In particular the ladies that I met. They have really specific questions about the game. I’m like wow, just blown away. ...”
That commentary is surprising to hear in 2020 to say the least. Especially from a veteran commentator on a network broadcast who has worked for years with respected NFL reporters like Andrea Kremer and Michele Tafoya — not to mention the women behind the scenes on the “Sunday Night Football” broadcast.
Collinsworth unsurprisingly drew the scorn of Twitter for his comment — some of it containing NSFW language.
Someone tell Cris Collinsworth that being blown away by women who like football and are knowledgeable Steelers fans isn't the compliment he thinks it is. #PITvsBAL

almost every day lately we see women becoming 'the first' to do something in men's professional sports, but Cris Collinsworth... https://t.co/V3n81VXXcW

I care less about Cris Collinsworth's "gee women know football" comment and more about the fact I have to listen to his annoying voice and commentary every week. https://t.co/lClkpPFHS7

There was was a man called Cris Collinsworth

I'm sure he can find us the Bible verse.— SteveFest_FL (@SteveFest_2012) December 2, 2020
Cris Collinsworth “blown away” women understand football? It begs the question. What does he think Michele Tafoya does?

Did Cris Collinsworth really just say he was blown away that "even the ladies I met" in Pittsburgh want to talk football? It's fucking 2020, dude. Progress. -H

Cris Collinsworth’s comments about being surprised women can be educated Steelers fans are obviously ridiculous, but sadly not surprising. It will now be interesting if he faces any punishment. He’s been a voice of the NFL for a very long time.

So far this year, Cris Collinsworth has made fun of wearing masks and seems stunned that "ladies" know about football. Maybe @NFL could fill him in about their viewership demographics. He seems to be a newbie to this game.

It’s safe to say Wednesday was not Collinsworth’s finest moment in the broadcast booth.
