ND harriers look to build on last year's success

Aug. 9—GREENSBURG — Coming off a very successful cross country season in 2023, North Decatur is looking to use that experience for another solid season on the course.

The Lady Chargers return seven letterwinners to the fold in 2024. Last season, the Lady Chargers won the South Decatur Invitational title, the East Central Invitational Division II title and the Rushville Invitational Division II title.

The Lady Chargers will once again be a younger team, with just one senior. Cecilia Barber is the lone senior, entering her fourth season as a varsity runner.

Junior returning letterwinners include Dorothy Robbins, Ava Lecher, Olivia Reisman and Lauren Miller. Sophomore letterwinners from a year ago are Jewel Verseman and Emerson Gun. Incoming freshman looking to make an immediate impact are Norah Amberger and Jessie Biltz.

Robbins, Verseman and Reisman were members of the All-MHC cross country team in 2023.

Coach Kyle Nobbe said both the boys and girls had tremendous offseason workouts with consistent numbers for both teams.

"We used the summer open runs to train around the area running different terrains to prepare for the upcoming season. We are excited to see how the season progresses and the strides the team and individuals make throughout the season as we prepare to run our best in October for our conference and sectional meet," Coach Nobbe said.

The Chargers have five juniors running this fall: Eli Wisenbach, Jackson White, Sam Cathey, Teagan Striecker and Jake Dimett. Sophomore Harper Gun and a trio of freshman Jayden Lawrence, Clayton Ruf and Logan Summey, will also be providing depth to the Chargers this season.

"Our team goals are to stay injury free, look to show continual improvement throughout the season and to compete for a Mid-Hoosier-Conference Championship for both the boys' and girls' teams. We are also looking to advance as many runners as possible out of the very competitive Brown County Sectional," Coach Nobbe added.
