Now Ex-Coyotes' Owner Alex Meruelo Relinquishes Rights to Team
According to long-time Arizona Coyotes reporter Craig Morgan Coyotes' owner, Alex Meruelo has relinquished rights to the team.
Morgan reported via Twitter/X that NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly confirmed that Meruelo has completed the process to relinquish his rights to the Coyotes.
Per NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly,
Alex Meruelo has agreed to and signed all of the necessary agreements and paperwork to relinquish his rights to the Coyotes. The process is complete.— Craig Morgan (@CraigSMorgan) July 10, 2024
The next steps are still unknown at this time, as the situation remains fluid. However, the assumption would be that the team would be up for sale, and another owner could go through the process of purchasing the team and eventually bring the NHL back to Arizona.
Arizona has the potential to be a good NHL hockey market, under the right ownership. The NHL appears to have hit a home run with Ryan Smith and the new ownership of the Utah Hockey Club.
Take a breath, Coyotes fans; there is still hope for another NHL franchise in the future.
