Pac-12 nets a slew of commitments at The Opening

A good number of talented Class of 2014 prospects gave verbal commitments to Pac-12 schools on Tuesday evening at The Opening, a camp featuring some of the nation's top recruits at Nike's headquarters in Beaverton, OR.

Here is a look at some of the notable verbal pledges:

Arizona: The Wildcats landed their 12th commitment in the 2014 class when cornerback Naijiel Hale pledged his services. The son of the late hip-hop icon Nate Dogg, Hale is one of the better cornerbacks on the West Coast. The 5-11, 181-pounder from Saint John Bosco High School (Bellflower, CA) chose the Wildcats over offers from schools such as Cal, Nebraska and Arizona State. He's the third cornerback in the Wildcats' class.

Cal: At the same time that Hale opted to commit to Arizona, his high school teammate, fellow top defensive back Jaleel Wadood, chose to play at Cal. The 5-11, 165-pound athlete joins two safeties who are already committed to the Bears in the 2014 class. Depth in the secondary is very much needed for Sonny Dykes, and Wadood has the versatility to play corner or safety at the next level.

Oregon: The Ducks received a commitment from one of the top players in the state of Texas, as Arrion Springs chose the Ducks over Texas. The 6-foot, 195-pound Class of 2014 product from Theodore Roosevelt High School (San Antonio, TX) is one of the better cornerbacks in the country and is Oregon's first commitment in 2014 from the state of Texas. Of course, former head coach Chip Kelly had done his best to make a bit of a dent in the Lone Star state since he arrived on campus.

Washington: The Huskies' ability to land top wide receivers continues with the commitment of Erik Brown, who becomes the seventh player in Washington's Class of 2014 and the second star wide receiver, joining Rahshead Johnson, a fellow recruit from Southern California. The 6-1, 172-pounder from Summit High School (Fontana, CA) had numerous Pac-12 offers as well as offers from schools like Notre Dame and Nebraska. Steve Sarkisian continues to get things done on the recruiting trail heading into what is a season of high expectations in 2013.

In addition to those commitments...

Arizona State: Despite not even playing a down in high school, Loren Mondy has already committed to the Sun Devils. The fourteen-year-old Texan gave a verbal pledge to Sun Devils head coach Todd Graham, who coached Mondy's father in high school and at East Central University. The 6-foot, 225-pound younger Mondy is a linebacker and defensive end, and his commitment makes him what many believe to be the youngest ever to commit to ASU.
