Retired Vestal coach Debbie Reynolds inducted into NY High School Soccer Hall of Fame

Retired Vestal High School girls soccer coach Debbie Reynolds was among this year's 12 inductees into the New York State Sports Writers and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports New York High School Soccer Hall of Fame.

The eighth annual Hall of Fame class was inducted Sept. 7 during a ceremony at Niskayuna High School in Schenectady. Reynolds was presented by 1991 Vestal graduate Karin (Sherman) Raville, one of her former players.

During a 25-year coaching career at Vestal, Reynolds guided the Golden Bears to a record of 354-104-23. She was the first coach in program history in 1978 and remained coach through the 2002 season.

Her coaching run included a state championship in 1988, three state runner-up finishes, six state final fours, and 13 sectional championships. Vestal had a 49-game unbeaten streak from 1981 to 1983.

Reynolds was a finalist for national Coach of the Year honors in 2000. She coached five high school All-Americans and 36 all-state selections.

Section 5: Victor Van Vliet, York, coach/contributor.

Section 6: Dale MacArthur, Allegany-Limestone, coach/contributor; and Marissa Birzon, Williamsville East, class of 2017.

Section 8: Jill Mulholland, MacArthur, class of 2012.

Section 11: Erin Gilroy, Sachem, class of 1994.

CHSAA: Larry Desautels, Nichols, coach/contributor.

CHSAA Long Island: Brianna Passero, St. Anthony's, class of 2019.
