Apr. 10—Vikes compete at Vincennes
VINCENNES — The Barr-Reeve golf team finished 15th out of 16 teams with a score of 401 at the Vincennes Lincoln Invitational at Cypress Hills on Saturday.
Levi Traylor led with 94, Isaac Knepp had a 96, Chezney Sullivan shot 104and Copeland Gish shot 107. As a team B-R moved to 4-26.
Hatchets drop 2
JENNINGS — The Washington Hatchet baseball team dropped a pair of road games at Jennings County on Saturday to move to 3-3.
WHS fell 8-7 in the first game, as Zayne Tolliver drove in three runs, Trey James had two, while Sean Watkins and Ole Kroeger had one RBI each. Hunter Walls and James had two hits each, as WHS had seven hits over all.
James started and gave up three earned runs, while Jayden Meredith also gave up three and took the loss.
In the second game, WHS lost 6-4 and pounded out eight hits. Tolliver had the only multi-hit game, while hits also came from. Walls, James, Kroeger, Watkins, Brody Clark and Braxton Nathan. Walls took the loss and struck out three.
Loogootee hosts Invite, beats ND
LOOGOOTEE — The Loogootee Lions hosted an invite on Saturday.
In its first match, LHS beat Bloomfield 4-1, with Kieragen Napier beat Adalyn Wiseman, 6-1, 6-0 and Caitlin Carrico defeated Lucy Allen, 6-2, 6-4, but Bloomfield's Adalyn Figg defeated Marley McAtee, 6-3, 6-3. In doubles, Ana Toy/Addy Lengacher beat Amya Hilderbrand/Lydia Wade, 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2, Abbey Fischer/Macy Knepp defeated Sadie Ross/Maddie Stone, 6-3, 6-2.
In the championship, Gibson Southern beat Loogootee, 5-0.
GS took every spot, with Gracia Jones defeated Kieragen Napier, 6-4, 6-1, Sydney Purcell defeated Caitlin Carrico, 6-4, 6-3 and Lilly Schmitt beat McAtee, 6-0, 6-0
In doubles, Lillie Booth/Gabby Smith beat Ana Toy/Addy Lengacher, 6-3, 6-4 and Emilee Bullock/Emily Holzmeyer downed Abbey Fischer/Macy Knepp, 6-3, 6-2. Scottsburg beat Bloomfield in the consolation match.
"Although we didn't win the invitational, this was a good day of tennis for us. We competed hard and are starting to develop good chemistry in doubles. This was our fourth match in three days and we didn't have the legs against a good Gibson Southern team," said coach Mike Tippery.
The Lions also defeated North Daviess on Friday, 4-1.
Napier defeated Reagan Knepp 6-1, 6-2 and Annalise Powell defeated Amaya McBride, 6-4, 6-2, but Cougar Emma Sargent defeated Marley McAtee. 6-0, 6-0
Ana Toy/Addy Lengacher downed Gracelyn Byrer/Mea Dalrymple, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, Abbey Fischer/Macy Knepp beat Elaina Morgan/Bella Laughlin 7-5, 6-3.
ND took the JV match, 3-0
Hatchets fall to GS
FORT BRANCH — The Hatchet tennis team fell to Gibson Southern on Friday, 3-2.
Lacy Hancock was a 2-2 winner over Gracia Jones, Annabelle Blake beat Sydney Purcell, 3-6. 7-6(7-4) and 10-8, but Kenna Garland fell, 4 and 1.
In doubles, Cassie Dillon and Ryley Traylor fell, 1 and 3 and Ella Williams and Maliya Thorne lost, 1 and 2.
The Hatchet JV won 3-2.
