With Wimbledon in full swing, tennis fashion is experiencing a revival

The 135th Wimbledon Championships are officially underway. It's the third Grand Slam of the year and while tons of fans are tuning in to see their favorites, even more are reveling in the fashion show put on by both spectators and players.

Tennis fashion becoming mainstream isn't exactly a new phenomenon. Neither is taking a risk on the court with your ensemble. Charlotte 'Lottie Dod' secured her first Wimbledon win 1887 at just 15 years old. According to Time, her age allowed her to forgo the more modest tight corset, full-length dress in favor of a shorter, calf-length garment. Complaints ensued, and consequently a conversation began: is form over function a necessity in tennis? Considering how fast the players move on the court, the answer was a resounding yes.

Fast forward to 2022, where self-expression is encouraged and brands like Lululemon, Athleta, Nike, Adidas and more have capitalized on the growing trend of tennis gear as a part of an everyday wardrobe. Then there are companies like Wilson, which emboldens the lifestyle from head to toe, accessories included. Likely every ball you've touched, from recreational to professional, has been stamped with the Chicago-based company's classic logo.

This time last year, Wilson launched its first ever sportswear line of timeless staples and fashion-forward streetwear. Since then, multiple capsules have followed and most recently, an exclusive tennis collection with lifestyle label Kith.

Even though Wimbledon has enforced an almost entirely white dress code, there's still major curiosity that looms when some of the chicest athletes step onto Centre Court. All eyes are on how the likes of Williams and Rafael Nadal can implement their personal style into a pretty stringent protocol.

The latest collab with Kith, which dropped earlier this month, is only available at Hampton Racquet, family-owned country club located in East Hampton, New York. Pleated skirts, polos, dresses, tanks and more bearing both brand's logos in neutral tones of whites, navy blues and beige adorn the retail shop of the charming club.
