Vote: Boone County high school athlete of the week for the first week of September

It’s voting time for Boone County high school athletics.

During the first week of September, athletes all across the county, among a variety of sports, shined. Those players make up the Tribune’s Athlete of the Week poll.

The nominees for this week are Baker Thornburg, Brayden Matheney, Caleb Sager, Chris Brown, Drevyn Seamon, Ealynne Bostick, Ella Perkins, Issac Stinson, Jaylynn Brown, Madison Johnson, Madison Taylor, Mason Shearer, Megan Schoeneberg, Parker Rainwater, Sam Ryan, Trace Combs, Tess Moloney.

Bostick, Jaylynn Brown, and Bostick helped propel Centralia Softball to an 11-1 victory over Battle. Brown collected 11 strikeouts in six innings. Bostick went 4-4 while Johnson collected three hits, including a home run.

Chris Brown scored on both the offensive and defensive side for Battle in a 42-18 loss to Capital City. He recovered a fumble and returned it 72 yards while also adding a rushing touchdown.

Combs and Sager were key in Harrisburg’s 22-6 win against Clark County. Sager scored twice while Combs reached the end zone on a 26-yard score in the fourth quarter.

Matheney and Stinson now have their names on top of the Hallsville record books. Matheney became Hallsville’s all-time passing yards leader with 3,749 yards while also setting the all-time completions record with 267. Stinson is now the all-time receiving yards leader with 1,685.

Moloney, Perkins, Taylor, and Schoeneberg all were crucial in Hickman softball’s 20-18 victory over Rolla. Perkins went 4-4 with an RBI, while Schoeneberg collected 4 hits, including 3 RBIs. Moloney and Taylor each hit a home run in a high-scoring victory.

McCoy helped end momentum gained by Hallsville in Centralia’s 48-20 victory. With the Panthers up 10, McCoy recorded an interception near the goal line.

Rainwater provided a hat trick for Rock Bridge boys soccer. His three goals helped the Bruins defeat Tolton 6-0.

Ryan dominated Fayette in a 48-13 Tolton victory. On six receptions, Ryan tallied 180 yards and four touchdowns.

Seamon’s versatility for Rock Bridge showed in a 55-0 victory at Smith-Cotton. He touched the football 10 times, tallying 116 total yards and three scores, which included two through the air.

Thornburg propelled Tolton boys soccer to victory. The sophomore scored three goals in a 5-0 win over St. Louis Christian Sr.
