#SerenaSlam! 9 Times the Tennis Star Was More Fashionable Than You
There’s nothing stopping Serena Williams at the moment. The tennis superstar is riding high after claiming her sixth Wimbledon title this past weekend — her fourth straight win this year. (If she takes the U.S. Open in September, she will be the first player since 1988 to complete a full Grand Slam in a calendar year.)
So you can see why Williams didn’t pay any mind to a senseless commentator who tweeted over the weekend that “she is built like a man.” Honestly buddy, get over yourself. The woman trains for about 15 hours a day, can issue a 122 mph serve, and is 100 percent pure muscle. We should all be so lucky to be as strong and healthy as she is!
While Williams paved her way to victory, she found an unexpected ally in author J.K. Rowling, who shut down the ignorant detractor. “ Yeah, my husband looks just like this in a dress. You’re an idiot,” Rowling tweeted alongside a photo of Williams in a curve-hugging red dress and sky-high Christian Louboutin heels. So far Rowling’s response has been retweeted over 84,000 times with 110,000 likes. Girl power!
Of course Williams then went on to rack up another damning win in the style department — she wore a peach-colored gown to the Wimbledon Ball that she had bought and packed “just in case.” The long silk gown featured a bejeweled bodice, and the champion was practically glowing with glee. (We’re sure that taking turns on the dance floor with Novak Djokovic probably had something to do with it, too.)
What’s also worth noting is that Williams is a bona fide style all-star who has recently been on the cover of Vogue and is someone who designers love to dress. Here are nine instances in which Williams’s sartorial slayings were undeniable. Take that, Internet trollz.
