Duvet Days — All our fantasies of wearing our comforter on super-cold days can now be a reality. We saw duvet dressing in London at Alexander McQueen and Marques’ Almeida, and at Stella McCartney and Rick Owens in Paris.

Fur Sleeve — Forget the sleeveless jackets we’ve seen so much of the last few seasons — this fall, sleeves are back and more luxurious than ever. Of course, the fashion pack likes them even better when they’re trimmed with fur.

Get Waisted — Call it waist training or simply torture — either way, the corset is back. But instead of wearing it under your favorite dress to get the desired effect, wear it out and wear it proud. Prada opened its show with loosely-laced white corset-belts, which never looked so chic and disheveled at the same time.

Leather Up — Get ready to channel your inner dominatrix or tough biker chick — this fall, the full leather look is sexy, savvy, and street-approved.

Pink — The pink ladies will be hitting the streets come fall. From Chanel’s classic pink tweed suiting, to Gucci’s pink silk dresses, get ready to expand your fall palette beyond black and gray.

Sleeve-y Wonder — Dramatic, full sleeves dominated the runways this season. The voluminous, cocoon-shaped arm was seen everywhere from Burberry in London, to Marni and Gucci in Milan, to Dior and Y/Project in Paris.

Spirit Animal — Is it a bird, a snake, or a tiger? IT doesn’t matter — as long as you wear your favorite animal on everything from coats to sweaters to dresses. If exotic animals aren’t your style, fear not! The humble cat is the spirit animal of choice for Karl at Chanel, J.W. Anderson at Loewe, and Stefano and Domenico of Dolce and Gabbana.

The Statement Jacket — Move over, bomber jackets. This fall, Burberry leads the pack in making the military jacket the must-have item — and everyone from Dolce & Gabbana to Givenchy to Louis Vuitton turned out their version of the dress-uniform-inspired coat.

The New Neckline — The neck is still the erogenous zone of choice come fall, but this time, it’s more about attitude than sex appeal. Imagine putting your jacket on nonchalantly so it hangs off your shoulder — but of course in fashion, nothing is effortless, so the off-shoulder shape is already cut that way by Balenciaga, Dior, Miu Miu, and Alexander McQueen.

Velvet Suit — The standout two-piece reared its smooth head at Frame Denim in New York, again at 3.1 Phillip Lim, and when it stooped down the runway at Vetements in Paris, it was confirmed — the velvet suit is a must come fall.

Four cities, 32 non-stop days, and too many runway shows, presentations, and parties to count — yes, fashion month is finally over! Previously, we’ve brought you the top trends from New York, London, and Milan, but the show’s not over until Paris, where trends are born and careers are made.

Across all four fashion weeks, we saw a darker mood emerge for fall 2016 — a trend we saw first at Marc Jacob’s show in New York, and carried through to Dior in Paris. For nighttime, dresses are over the top and glamorous — think Saint Laurent’s collection with its early-’80s obsession. For daytime, the “street luxe” look is in full swing — which at this point, we might as well call the Vetements effect. The new Balenciaga woman is wearing sensible jackets that are all-weather approved, as is the Prada lady in Milan. Meanwhile, the Courrèges girl is slowly building her wardrobe of staple pieces. For color trends, pink ladies are ruling the roost, whilst the leather chicks are looking as chic and tough as ever. There’s lots to discuss, so without further ado, here are the top 13 trends you need to know about for fall 2016.
