A$AP Rocky Says Fashion is Like Harry Potter

"Your wand has to choose you, as opposed to you choosing your wand." No, we’re not quoting Harry Potter. That’s A$AP Rocky discussing fashion with Complex on the set of his shoot for Adidas. “That’s what fashion is like, man. You gotta let it take control of you. You don’t know, sometimes it is stepping out of your own comfort zone, but it is what it is.”
If you haven’t read J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, Rocky’s referring to the process of a young wizard choosing a wand. When you’re old enough to get your own, you don’t get to choose. Instead, it chooses you. The rapper’s metaphor might be a long-winded way of saying don’t force it, but it makes us love him even more.
Rocky’s love of fashion is no secret, he name drops more brands in one song than any given issue of Vogue. In “Fashion Killa” he rhymes, “She got a lotta Prada, that Dolce & Gabanna/I can’t forget Escada, and that Balenciaga.” Even in 2011’s “Pesos,” he rapped, “I gets get the freshest Raf Simons, Rick Owens usually what I’m dressed in.” He was once engaged to Victoria’s Secret model Chanel Iman and tells Complex, “I’ve f***** so many models because I don’t give a f*** about them being models.” But before he gets there, he’s positively sweet relating his style philosophy back to everyone’s favorite wizard, “Don’t get it if it’s not you, you know? And if it’s your thing it’ll be natural.”
"Stick to your guns," he adds. Hermione would be proud.
