A Bare Chested Bieber Gets Booed at Fashion Rocks

The concert lineup alone for Fashion Rocks at the Barclay’s Center last night was reason enough to head out to Brooklyn. Not only were there performances from Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Lopez, and Nicki Minaj on the docket, but so were sets from the likes of Duran Duran and KISS. Carmen Electra – who revealed she will soon release a followup to her 2012 single “I Like It Loud” – told us that guys like KISS’ Paul Stanley was a teen crush of hers, alongside Michael Jackson and Peter Frampton. “I guess I’m just attracted to guys that wear makeup,” Electra added.
Other guests on the carpet included Michelle Williams (whose album Journey To Freedom had just been released hours before), Lily Aldridge, Estelle, and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover model Hannah Furguson. Furguson admitted that she has only recently become a fashion addict, saying, “I’ve gotten really into nice bags lately, so I’ve been sucked up into that tornado. I might even need to have to redo my closet to make space. I just got this new Prada, it’s simple and black and just the right size – but red on the inside.”
Bella Thorne has her eye on some purchases of her own. With fall just around the corner, she told us her latest obsession: infinity scarves. “They’re just so perfect and cozy,” said the actress. “And for fall, I love them in rich yellows and greens and all those great colors that just scream fall.” She admitted that despite the star-studded show’s lineup, she really only came to see Enrique Iglesias perform. Just talking about Iglesias, she had to raise her hand to her mouth as if to prevent herself from screaming. “I’ve just… ugh… I mean, I’ve always been a massive, massive fan. Like, I can’t even talk about it. No words.”
Atlanta de Cadenet Taylor and her father, Duran Duran bassist John Taylor were seen on the red carpet together, and dear old dad has clearly had some musical influence over the downtown party set’s favorite deejay. “I’ve really been into seventies and eighties rock lately,” she said. “It just makes me want to dance. Especially in this dress.” She was wearing a black Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane mini (“Chic as fuck,” she called it). Her father, who during the Fashion Rocks program performed the classic “Hungry Like The Wolf” with his Duran Duran bandmates, weighed in on the musicians of today who have caught his eye: “I think Kanye West is very interesting right now. He’s very personal, and does whatever he cares to do. And Arcade Fire is probably the best band of the last few years. And I really love Banks at the moment.”
Perhaps no better performer addressed the relationship between fashion and music than Dutch deejay Afrojack, who on the red carpet wore customized pieces from his recent collaboration with G Star. Said the deejay: “With fashion I always change it up completely, and that gave me inspiration to change it up completely with the new album. I don’t want to do that flat, shallow shit. Making a song that looks like another song is really easy. But making something different and having people understand it is really challenging. But that’s what I always try to do.”
