A Family Affair at the Oscars
Certain super hot bachelor actors— Leo, Jared, Bradley— are known for pulling out the mom card when it comes to picking a date for the Oscars. Perhaps they want to tamp down the rumors of their latest supermodel breakup (see Leo every other month) or maybe they want to look like the dutiful son who will thank their mom profusely at the podium ( see Jared Leto at Oscars 2014). But now it seems every celebrity in Hollywood has decided to turn the whole event into a family affair. While Chris Pine escorted his mother, actress Laura Dern brought her father Bruce— to be fair, her dad has been a bona fide thespian for over five decades. Actress Melanie Griffith, another screen legend, came to lend moral support to her newly single daughter Dakota Johnson, who just made her big, splashy debut in 2015’s most anticipated film Fifty Shades of Gray. Patricia Arquette, who has been nominated for her best-supporting actress role in Boyhood, brought two members of her family: sister Rosanna and daughter Harlow. ( This is the first Oscar nominee for the Arquette troupe). American Sniper Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper decided not to choose between his girlfriend and his mom Gloria Campano— instead he brought both ladies for good luck.
