A Groom Carried His Injured Bride Down the Aisle
In the latest story circulating the Internet to remind us that there is still some humanity left in the world, a groom carried his injured bride down the aisle at their wedding.
Hannah Patterson was in a bad car accident only five weeks before the big day, which left her with a concussion and confined to a wheelchair with a broken pelvis, a punctured kidney, and broken ribs. Hannah was distraught over her injuries going into her wedding. “Obviously, being in the wheelchair and not able to walk was very upsetting for me on my wedding day,” she told ABC News, “but I had cried at the rehearsal, so I didn’t cry on the day.”
On the day of the Patterson wedding in Ontario, Canada, on Aug. 25, family and friends were moved when Hannah was pushed halfway down the aisle by her father and then picked up and carried the rest of the way to the altar by the groom, Stuart. The touching moment was captured by wedding photographer Sarah Powell of Sarah Grace Photography, and it has since gone viral.
The couple, who both originally hail from Northern Ireland, leaned on one another for support while Hannah was recovering from the accident. Hannah credits a large part of her ability to recover from the ordeal to her now husband, who never left her side.
“Stuart slept in the chair next to me in hospital every night holding my hand,” she told the Huffington Post. “I know it has been hard on him to see me like this, but he was strong for both of us.”
Despite her injuries, Hannah had a goal for the day: She wanted to stand for her vows. Hannah shared with ABC News that to do so, she balanced on one leg and leaned on her husband. Check out their beautiful wedding video below.
