With her hit comeback album 25 and an upcoming international tour, Adele posed for the cover of American Vogue and talked with Hamish Bowles about her music, son, confidence, and more. “I was just shocked that all of a sudden I was 25!” she told the magazine. “But actually, I like myself more than ever. Adele, like a majority of the population, knows that the struggle is real. On her third magazine cover in as many months, the singer went over-the-top with her makeup, but simple in the styling department. While her hair done in a messy updo, her maquillage was quite the opposite, as her lips were lined in red meticulously and her winged eyeliner expertly applied. The secret to her success? "The fact that I’m not shy or embarrassed to be falling apart,“ she said. "Sometimes when you know someone else feels as shit as you do, or approaches things in a certain way just like you do, it makes you feel better about yourself … I hope I do bring joy to people’s lives, and not just sadness, but I think there’s a comfort in it. But I honestly don’t know. If I knew, I would bottle it, and sell it to everyone else.”

Being a supportive Brit, Adele has basically worn (with the exception of the Valentino dress she wore on Jimmy Fallon) just U.K.-based brands. Not only is Adele a Thanksgiving Miracle, her songs holding the magical ability to make every family member get along for the length of one song, she also wore the perfect outfit for the upcoming holiday meal (even though she’s British). As the musical guest on Saturday Night Live, the 25 artist wore a long-sleeved fringe dress from Burberry.

Obviously a fan of fringe, Adele also wore it, although a bit more subtly, to celebrate the release of her new album during a performance to small audience in New York. Wearing a black shirt and pants, she added flair and fun with a red robe coat.

Not the traditionally produced music video, for the second song released from her upcoming album 25, Adele performed “When We Were Young” in a fashion-forward ensemble. Singing about past love in The Church Studios, she belted out the all-too-relatable lyrics while wearing velvet culottes (or maybe they’re flood pants?) with Louboutin steel-toe boots, the same pair she wore for a recent outing, a black lacy camisole, and a velvet blazer. She had her hair in a half-up, half-down and her signature beauty consisting of an exaggerated cateye, long eyelash extensions, and pointy nails.

Sitting down to talk with BBC Radio’s Zane Lowe (he’s like the Elvis Duran of London), Adele wore all black in tight pants, a ruffle blouse (covered up by her ankle-grazing wool coat), and her favorite Louboutin boots. Among the revelations in the hour-long interview was that she would never disrespect Queen Bey by turning her down for a duet, despite rumors to the contrary. “I would never disrespect her like that. For a live performance of “Hello” at the NRJ Awards in Cannes, France, light emanated from the singer quite literally. Her Jenny Packham black dress mixed fabrics with a sweater-like material on the top and a structured bottom that showed off her trim waist. "I do have body image problems, for sure, but I don’t let them rule my life at all,“ she said. "And there’s bigger issues going on in the world than how I feel about myself and stuff like that.”

Look forward to this special, holiday-like look from Jenny Packham on November 20 when a special airs on the BBC in celebration of her new album. “It was that thing of, do I or don’t I want to go back to my music,” she said. “Obviously I do, and I just wanted to make sure that everything was in place for me to do it so I could do it properly. I can’t do anything else, this is all that I like doing.”

Stripping off her heavy makeup and appearing as she just stepped out of the shower (her hair’s even still wet and she’s wearing a fluffy white robe), the singer posed in the thinking position and showed off her “Paradise” tattoo (which wasn’t copied from Lana Del Rey, who has a similar one). Criticized for her weight for years, she’s slimmed down as of late. "I’m not, like, skipping to the f***king gym. I don’t enjoy it. I do like doing weights. I don’t like looking in the mirror,” she admitted. “Blood vessels burst on my face really easily, so I’m so conscious when I’m lifting weights not to let them burst in my face. And if I don’t tour, you’ll catch me [eating] Chinese!”

In the most heart-wrenching, record-breaking, beautifully-shot music video maybe of all time, Adele dressed in the most perfectly pulled together (and easily emulated) fall outfit. In a flannel shirt, patterned blanket scarf, black pants, and a fuzzy Snuffleupagus-inspired fuzzy coat. Through love or loss, there’s always fashion.

Literally every-f–king-thing. Books, clothes, food ranges, drink ranges, fitness ranges… That’s probably the funniest,” she said. “They wanted me to be the face of a car. Toys. Apps. Candles. It’s, like, I don’t want to endorse a line of nail varnishes, but thanks for asking. A million pounds to sing at your birthday party? I’d rather do it for free if I’m doing it, cheers…”
When Karl Lagerfeld, the reigning King of Fashion, fat shames you, there’s no better revenge than to step out in some gorgeous outfits. For Adele, who became the target of the Kaiser’s out-of-touch body opinions a few years back, she proved that even people who are “a little roundish” can drop mics both literally in regards to music and figuratively in the sartorial sense. And looking great — and doing even greater things — is like one large metaphorical f** you (to him, all her exes, and anyone else that’s ever doubted her).
The singer, with her album set to debut on November 20 after a three year hiatus (she settled down, had a baby, and spent time gathering source material) has been doing just that, with fashion-forward music videos any designer would give up green juice forever to be a part of, public appearances in sparkly gowns Kate Middleton might eventually wear, and street-chic ensembles that style bloggers will emulate with step-by-step shopping details. From multiple Jenny Packham gowns to statement coats (including one inspired by Mr. Snuffleupagus), the hits don’t stop for Adele at ballads.
