After Internet Troll Attacks, Zendaya Comes to Teen’s Rescue and Offers Her a Modeling Gig

Through social media, Zendaya Coleman has become a bit of a clapback queen. After she sent a sharply written letter to Giuliana Rancic for offensive comments she made about her faux locks, and sent a curt response to comedian Julie Klausner for her skinny-shaming, the star has made it clear she has no problem in fighting back in a public forum. But her latest clapback wasn’t even on her own behalf.

In what seems to have become an unstoppable social media pastime, a troll hopped on the platform to tweet photos of another user in a negative light. “Never trust a top half posting *** female,” he wrote. The post implied that the girl in the photos was attempting to deceive followers by posting only closely cropped pictures. Before long though, social media began to respond, with a variety of women coming to her defense.

The original post is a part of a growing trend in which men call women out for supposedly deceptive tactics on social media, in dating and relationship behavior, and more. And this time, Zendaya stepped in.

“Guaranteed she doesn’t know you exist my man,” the actress, singer, entrepreneur celebrity tweeted. “As for her, slay on queen.” But the response wasn’t enough for Z, who took it a step further, asking her followers for help with a new project. “Can we find her?” she wrote, asking her more than 7 million followers to help connect her to the woman. “I’d love for her to be a Daya by Zendaya model.”

The move wouldn’t make Zendaya the first to do casting from social media. Marc Jacobs has cast models from Instagram, as has Diesel and many other brands. In the celebrity world, Khloé Kardashian also has used social media stars for her Good American denim line, while beauty brands seemed to have cast all of their recent male faces from YouTube. But the action no doubt would turn what could have been a very low moment for one Twitter user into one of empowerment.

Within 15 minutes, users had found the user in question and connected the two women. “I’m really speechless right now because becoming a plus size model has been my number one goal,” she wrote. And just like that, she’s on her way.
