Alexander Wang Is Expecting a Baby ... Line, That Is
Alexander Wang skyrocketed to ubiquity: From a few sweaters and devoted downtown NYC followers, to a diffusion line, a collaboration with H&M, and a gig designing Balenciaga, one of the most iconic fashion houses of all time. His collections show in New York (OK, sometimes Brooklyn), and Paris, and are available in stores worldwide. Everyone from Miley Cyrus to Sienna Miller wears his clothes on the red carpet and in magazines. In fact, there’s really only one demographic he hasn’t reached: toddlers.
Alexander Wang, Inc.’s Instagram has been hinting at the launch of a new line soon, one for budding fashionistas with little to no fashion sense—yet. Following in the baby footsteps of fellow high-end clothiers like Stella McCartney, Lanvin, and Gucci, Wang appears to be entering into children’s territory. The account posted a pregnancy test with three question marks asking “Is it yours?”; a sonogram with a bag instead of a fetus; and a watch band tagged with a hospital bracelet captioned “Special Delivery…#ComingSoon.”
It’s not like Wang hasn’t dressed kids before. North West, the trendiest toddler of them all, sat front row at the 31-year-old’s most recent Fall/Winter show, wearing a mini version of the hard core biker chic ensembles seen on the runway. (She was even wearing mini platform creepers to match.) Wang’s niece, Alia Wang, has attended her uncle’s shows in his designs for years. With those power kids as potential campaign faces, pre-school is going to start looking a lot more punk.
