Amal and Solange: That 70's Show
Amal Alamuddin’s fairy tale-like circle dress—designed by the late Oscar de la Renta— might have caused envy among a million brides-to-be when she married George Clooney this fall, but it was her Stella McCartney cream top and trouser ensemble she wore for her civil ceremony that wowed the fashion world. Accessorized with a wide brim hat, it earned Alamuddin a place in fashion history right next to Bianca Jagger, who wore a similar pantsuit to her wedding to Mick in France back in 1971.
And now, as we predicted, Solange Knowles took her bridal cues from another seventies icon: Diana Ross. The plunging cream-colored jumpsuit designed by Stephane Rolland was both nostalgic (the singer even hosted a private screening of the diva’s film Mahogany during the weekend’s festivities) and totally on point with Knowles’s cutting-edge style. Instead of a hat, she opted for a Stars Wars worthy cape. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something disco seems to be the way to go this wedding season.
