Amy Adams Is the Hardest-Working Actress in Hollywood
We’ll have whatever she’s having.
Amy Adams has been racing from coast to coast, one event to another, to promote her acclaimed performance in Arrival. On Saturday, we saw her at two separate events: the BAFTA tea party and later, Paramount’s cocktail party at the Chateau Marmont.
An hour into the Paramount event, a Porsche pulled into the hotel’s driveway and Denzel Washington hopped out of the driver’s side. He made his way into the party, found a spot and stayed there. When he exited, he danced his way down the steps, joking that he’d had enough Hollywood banter for one night. We feel you, Denzel.
Arrival star Adams was the belle of the ball, sipping champagne and mingling. Meryl Streep turned up, hanging out at a side bar.
Earlier in the day, we spoke to Arrival director Denis Villeneuve about Adams. He’s been busy editing Blade Runner 2049, so Adams has been tirelessly promoting their film.
“I was shooting until the beginning of December. I arrived late. But Amy and Jeremy (Renner) have been doing interviews since Venice. I can’t complain. Amy is working so hard for the movie. She’s so generous. I’m so grateful. I’m so grateful for all the work she’s doing right now. She’s invited everywhere because it’s a fantastic performance,” says Villeneuve.
And she was his only choice for the part. “Once the screenplay was finished, I sat in front of the producer, and at the top of all our lists was Amy Adams. We approached her and she said yes in 24 hours. It was the fastest casting of my career. Usually it’s a long process. You wait for weeks to get an answer. She said a big yes,” he says.
What made her so right for the part? “I was looking for an actor who would be able to be play with all the layers to tell the story. There are several stories happening at the same time. I wanted someone who had the flexibility to play with all those layers. Amy has that beautiful humanity. She has a strong generosity. She gives everything in front of the camera. She has no filter. She is totally engaged. She’s able to keep the mystery alive,” says Villeneuve. “She’s the sweetest, most humble human being, the most gracious.”
