We’d Like to Invite You to Make a Dress for Rihanna
Whether you’re a Luc Besson kind of girl or Cara Delevingne kind of guy, here’s the opportunity of a lifetime: Yahoo Style is teaming up with the legendary French director—yes, the man behind The Fifth Element—to host a global costume contest for his next film, the hugely anticipated Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
In the film, which stars Cara Delevingne, Clive Owen, Dane DeHaan, and Rihanna, 8,000 different creatures exist on a space station called Alpha in the year 2580. Naturally, they throw an epic space party, one attended by politicians and dignitaries. But what does one wear to an out of this world rager? That’s where you come in.
Besson and costume designer Olivier Bériot are asking for designers, artists, and creatives the world over to help dress twenty of the party guests. They want to see your designs, which can be submitted via Talenthouse, and together with Yahoo Style’s editor in chief Joe Zee will select up to 20 winners whose costumes could be turned from a sketch into reality and featured in the final film.
The most important thing to note is that your design needs to include room for arms, legs, and a head. Other than that—go crazy! “In the world of Valerian, anything goes, so let your imagination run wild,” says the designer. “Luc’s vision is very bold, so do not limit yourself!”Why are they asking you? Besson says, “My hope is that by offering a contest like this to artists worldwide, we will gain access to inspired and original creations from a plethora of fresh perspectives, and the film will benefit from this collaboration.”
Winners will be featured on Yahoo Style and in the film, plus receive $1000 for their work. Click here for the official rules and details, and to submit your designs between now and November 27, 2015 at 10AM! We’ll announce the winners on Yahoo Style on December 14th.
