Many couples opt for wedding rings with a personal touch, such as a meaningful inscription engraved along the band’s interior. However, some jewelry designers take things a step further by creating rings that actually imprint on the skin — something that will stay on, albeit temporarily, if the groom or bride takes the wedding ring off.

Celebrity jeweler Jason Arasheben of Jason of Beverly Hills recently shared an image on his Instagram of a black gold ring with a half-set of five rows of black diamonds bearing the word “MARRIED” on the interior.

He captioned the image “Branded! MARRIED.” The letters of the word protrude, so as to leave a temporary mark on the wearer’s finger.

The inspiration behind the piece of jewelry came after Arasheben forgot his wedding ring at home, prompting his wife, Lisa, to drive to his office to deliver it to him. She remarked that she wished the ring would leave a mark on him if he was going to keep taking it off, and the idea stuck with him. Although Arasheben originally made the ring for himself, many clients loved the idea and have ordered duplicates. They don’t come cheap; rings in this collection start at $1,700 and go up from there depending on metal and carat count.

The unique touch on Arasheben’s design was seen as humorous by many of the jeweler’s followers. Some users tagged their partners, comically adding that they were going to purchase the ring for them, while others commented on how clever they felt the idea was.

This isn’t the first ring to bear a message that makes a big impression. The website TheCheeky.com, a retailer that has since been discontinued, formerly sold a $550 band with the words “I’M MARRIED” carved on the inside. In the product description for the band, the company wrote, “With Arnold, Tiger and two timing IMF guy in mind, we have created this wedding ring for people intent on cheating,” according to the New York Daily News.

At the time of this product’s release, a social media firestorm occurred, with many users condemning the concept behind the ring and questioning the intentions of those thinking of purchasing it.

The imprinting wedding band isn’t the only luxe jewelry piece that Arasheben has designed to mark a special occasion. The designer recently uploaded a shot of a gold bangle featuring diamonds and a hospital bar code. “The first piece of jewelry you or your child will ever wear is the hospital barcode bracelet given at birth. This bracelet serves as a celebration of both birth and rebirth,” he captioned the image.

Arasheben has worked with a number of high-profile clients, many of whom — including Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Dwyane Wade, and Katy Perry — have worn his pieces to red carpet events. He also created the 2015 NBA Championship rings for the Golden State Warriors.
