Set in the Grand Salon of the Baccarat Hotel New York, Monique Lhuillier’s Spring 2016 collection had a retro vibe as editors sat in small banquette areas and sipped champagne from bold-colored Baccarat flutes. Eschewing the traditional runway format, Lhuillier was joined by fashion editor Hal Rubenstein, and the two commented on each gown, describing all of the meticulous details.

The collection, inspired by “Alice in Wonderland,” Lhuillier explained that her collection drew inspiration from Alice’s path of fantasy, with “each gown balanced between modern allure and playful grandeur.”
The gowns had that trademark Monique Lhuillier look, whether it was pastel shades, romantic embellishments or satin sashes, but the designer made the details more extreme than ever before. “If the back was low before now it’s even lower, V-necks are lower than other seasons, but they’re done with a very elegant and fine touch to it so it’s still appropriate,” she tells Yahoo Style.

“I think a low back is a great place where you can feel more sensual by pushing the lower back detail,” Lhuiller explains pointing to the “June” dress as an example. “If I do a low back I always put a Chantilly lace over it so you’re still covered and it’s the lining that is lowered.”

For brides looking for a classic ball gown, Lhuillier also added volume. “When I decided to go full this season it’s extremely full, really not in the middle.”
For brides searching for a grand ball gown, the Aviva is a good option. It’s a sparkling confetti tulle ball gown with long sleeves, V-neck, and tiered horsehair skirt. It is quite voluminous, but the light-as-air layers and delicate beading keep the gown soft and feminine.
