Chicago entertainment reporter proposes to girlfriend with a movie trailer
For the last few years Jake Hamilton has served as a field reporter for the morning show on Chicago’s Fox 32. As his time on the airwaves has continued, so too has his growing fan base — including over 150,000 followers on Facebook.
Taking a peek at his online presence, you can see Hamilton sharing all aspects of his personal and professional lives, including what appear to be his main loves — his dog, his girlfriend, and movies. Given how open he seems, it was little surprise that Hamilton’s proposal of marriage to his girlfriend appeared to combine a few of these loves in one place. The Emmy-winning reporter recently shared a video of his unique proposal to his girlfriend, Lauren Deschenes, in a dark movie theater using the magic of a fake movie trailer.
He recently shared the results of his proposal adventure online, and it’s quickly gaining viral heat.
The video opens with the message, “My girlfriend thinks we are about to attend a special screening of a new horror movie.” Next, we see Hamilton and Deschenes seated in the auditorium of the Music Box Theater. Hamilton then excuses himself to “go to the restroom before we get going,” leaving Deschenes alone for the stunt.
She is then seen in the rest of the video watching Hamilton onscreen as he rushes back to his apartment from the movie theater to retrieve the engagement ring. Dramatic music then shifts into something more romantic, as we watch Deschenes reacting to the clip, at first with amusement, finally ending in romantic tears. Hamilton apparently walks past a number of personal landmarks for the couple before finally arriving in person (in real life) at the theater to pop the question on his knee.
The gist of the five-minute video must have scored two thumbs up from Deschenes, as she immediately responded “yes” to Hamilton’s request for her hand in marriage.

Kudos to Hamilton, a film critic and entertainment reporter, whose love for the cinema seems to have seeped into his real life — and for coming up with such a creative way to propose.
