Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Rihanna, Baby!
What could Friday Night Lights and Rihanna possibly have in common? An eye for hot guys—and a director! Filmmaker Peter Berg, who turned the show about high school football in Texas into a cult hit, has started a production company called Film 45m. Its first project? A documentary on Rihanna. Yes, you read that right: Bad Gal RiRi is coming to the big screen!
Believe it or not this isn’t the first time that Berg has worked with Rihanna. He directed the popstar in her feature film debut, 2012’s Battleship. Berg tells Deadline that the documentary will be like a modernized version of the Bob Dylan documentary Don’t Look Back, an “unfiltered look into Rihanna’s life and how she’s ascended to become a global icon.” He also added that he was interested in exploring a “young artist at the top of her game,” and unlike recent documentaries about Katy Perry and Justin Bieber, this will not be a “music film.”
Berg says he’ll focus on telling the “authentic, soulful story” of the Barbados native in a cinema verité style, which means it’s going to be super arty, possibly black and white—in keeping with her recent music video image—and feature lots of wistful staring out of tour buses. Not that there’s anything wrong with that! The truth is, we could watch RiRi stare at a pot of water boil and we would love every second of it.
