Construction Signs Are Sexist: Madonna Actually Made a Really Good Point

Nowadays, there are women in every profession: business, medicine, finance, you name it. There are female firemen, or should we say firefighters? And the same goes for police officers. There are even female construction workers. So why is it that when warning passers-by of construction, the sign says only: “Men Working”? You’ve never noticed that, have you? We hadn’t either, until Madonna pointed it out.

In her latest Instagram post, the pop goddess calls attention to a sign on the street in front of roadwork that reads, “Men Working.” She shared in the caption, “Did you ever see a sign like this on any city street that said: “Women Working” ………………? Wait………….??………….didn’t think so”.

Although sometimes the singer says wacky things — like when she said the black thong bodysuit-and-gown hybrid that flashed both her breasts and her behind that she wore to the Met Gala was a political statement (OK, whatever you say, Material Girl) — this is a really good point. We’ve never seen road/street signs that were inclusive of all genders.

And now that we’re acknowledging that women can work in any field they want, don’t you agree that it’s time that signs reflect that?
