Cool Girl Clique: The Modern Muses of Miu Miu
If ever fashion has a Girl’s Club it’s chez Miu Miu, the smart, playful, quirky-hip little sister to Prada, carrying the family nickname of company founder - and reigning tastemaker - Miuccia Prada. Aided by visionary casting agents Russell Marsh and, since early 2012, Ashley Brokaw – who famously favor idiosyncratic appearances over bland beauty – Prada has made anticipating the new face of Miu Miu as exciting as waiting for a new Wes Anderson movie to open, amassing a role call of Indie starlets from quirky cover girls Chloë Sevigny, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kirsten Dunst, and Elle Fanning to newcomers Imogen Poots and Bella Heathcote. Model members of the family include Hannelore Knuts, Sara Blomqvist, Maggie Rizer and Lindsey Wixon who told Dazed, “Miu Miu is always the last show of the season and it’s a celebration. I remember when I first walked for Miu Miu about four years ago, I was wearing a pair of satin platform pumps that had a rounded toe. I felt like I was walking on a cloud, down the carpet lined runway. It was a dream!”
At the show Miu Miu show on Wednesday afternoon in Paris, the last of fashion month, the new faces included Maddison Brown, Hailey Gates, Elizabeth Debicki, Mackenzie Davis, Millie Brady, Anya Taylor Joy, Louise Bourgoin, Louise Grinber, and Lola Le Lann. House favorites Lea Seydoux and Nymphomaniac stars Mia Goth and Stacy Martin rounded out the starry front row. The latter was quoted in New York Magazine saying that she was drawn to the label because of Prada’s “support of female artists on different levels, [working] with really great up-and-coming actresses.” Miu Miu for its part says the aim of their selection is “to define a fluid, uncontrived, even contradictory vision of modern femininity.” How refreshing. Here we take a look at the stars of today’s show as well the best ads over the past ten years.
