Curvy models stun in groundbreaking fashion show
Plus-size beauties ruled the runway at theCURVYCon’s first-ever fashion show, a stylish celebration of body diversity.
Models Liza Golden, Precious Lee, and Marquita Pring hit the catwalk Friday alongside WWE wrestler Nia Jax, and curvy YouTube vlogger Loey Lane , wearing designs by Rachel Roy, Rebel Wilson, RWN, Marybelle, Nanette Lepore, and Girl With Curves, just to name a few.
The show, hosted by plus-size style subscription service Dia & Co was theCURVYCon’s first in the three years since the body-positive convention was conceived by plus-size bloggers Chastity Garner and Cece Olisa. The two-day event running from September 8th to 9th in New York City was a bonanza of style, group workouts, and body-positive dialogue aimed to promote inclusivity in the fashion world for the 67 percent of women who wear a size 14 and up.
Cheering on the models was style expert Stacy London , supermodel Emme, curvy Project Runway winner Ashley Nell Tipton, and Whitney Way Thore, star of TLC’s “My Big Fat Fabulous Life.”
Themes within the collections: a beautiful blending of stripes and polka dots, neutrals, polka dots, florals, hats — netted fascinators, berets, fedoras — LBDs, and leather jackets in blush and black. Distressed denim and dresses were paired with low and thigh-high boots, and all the models wore long sparkly earrings and a red statement lip.
Following the fashion show was a body-positive panel discussion led by moderator Fern Mallis , founder of New York Fashion Week and former executive director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America and included style expert Stacy London, Emme, often dubbed the world’s first supermodel and more.
Day 2 of theCURVYcon is Saturday, September 9th. It will be live-streamed exclusively on Yahoo Style. Tune in here from 9:45am to 4pm on Saturday, September 9th.
