DIY Belts Inspired By the Spring Runways

Yahoo Style

Louche and loose belts and sashes (like the obi) were all over the Spring/Summer 2015 runways. They came in all types of fabrications, materials, widths, and colors at shows like Loewe and Hermès. But you don’t have to wait until spring to seize the trend, head to your local trimming store and pick out a desired fabric so that you can create a chic cincher all on your own.

Theory, Marni

For a more casual and all-American look, opt for a cotton or cotton-braided fabric that will work flawlessly with your favorite pair of jeans. Or, wrap it around your favorite trench and let it fall just like how it was shown at Theory or Marni.

If you’re overall vibe is a bit more sporty or preppy, opt for a striped grosgrain ribbon that can jazz up a monochrome or conservative ensemble. This particular material knots well and retains its shape so you can recreate the look as often as you would like.

If you want to attempt to recreate the fabulous obi that was shown at Loewe, pick up leather (or faux leather) trimming and wrap it around your waist with plenty of extra fabric to spare. Start to create a bow but only pull the looped out fabric on one side. Let the rest hang down casually. Congrats, you’ve achieved a laid back chic look.
