Emma Roberts’s Unretouched Aerie Campaign Is Here
Emma Roberts’s fall campaign for Aerie has arrived, after first being announced in July.
In keeping with the American Eagle-owned lingerie brand’s ongoing #AerieREAL campaign, begun in spring 2014, Roberts appears as-is in the images: No Photoshop, no post-production retouching. She’s also the first non-model to partake in #AerieREAL.
“Partnering with Aerie was a natural fit for me because #AerieREAL is a message I personally identify with, particularly being in an industry that is quick to judge flaws,“ the Scream Queens actress, 24, said in a release. "I feel so honored to be part of a movement that reassures women that real doesn’t mean flawed—real is sexy, real is cool.”
The ads, shot in New Orleans, have a relaxed, easy vibe: Roberts is seen casually hanging out at home in easy, non-revealing lingerie and loungewear in lace, plaid, and knits. In a behind-the-scenes snap, she’s wearing a cozy white sweater and playing with some fairy lights.
Last month, Roberts elaborated on the campaign’s importance in terms of spreading the message of body acceptance to young women—telling Refinery29 that she’d “never felt more confident and comfortable on a set—which is amazing, because you don’t have that safety net.”
“It’s important for me to be a part of this, because I see how hard it is for girls my sister’s age (14) with social media, and feeling like they need to look a certain way,” she added. “I want to promote the idea that it’s okay to look like yourself—you don’t have to Photoshop your Instagrams!”
Roberts’s #AerieREAL campaign will debut in stores and online September 3 through the holiday season.
