Eva Mendes Apologizes to Sweatpants, Blames Orange Crocs Instead
On Wednesday, Eva Mendes made a comment on Extra about how sweatpants can cause a marriage to implode. “Sweatpants, no, no, no, no. No, no, you can’t do sweatpants. Ladies, number one cause of divorce in America is sweatpants. No, you can’t do that,” she said. Followers, journalists, Tweeters, and elastic-waist-wearing fans, weren’t amused. So much so, that the new mom felt compelled to clear the air. On Friday, the 41-year-old actress apologized via Instagram about her bold statement and clarified that “it was a bad joke.” Mendes instead revealed the real cause of divorce: orange crocs!
"Dear favorite pair of sweatpants. I was just kidding when I said you’re the #1 cause of divorce," the caption to Mendes’s photo reads. “Everyone knows that orange crocs are the #1 cause of divorce. Either way it was a bad joke and I feel terrible if you or anyone thought I was serious. Thanks for understanding sweatpants. Sorry orange crocs.” Now that’s a statement we can see eye-to-eye on. Sorry, rubber shoes. We’re just getting used to the Birkenstock look.
Her 34-year-old boyfriend even got in on the game. Ryan Gosling took to Twitter to support his lady.
So can we expect to see a pair of pants in the actress’s new clothing collection anytime soon? It’s possible. More possible than rubber orange soles, at least. But a couple that gets cozy together, stays together. And not only are Mendes and Gosling undeniably good looking, but the two have proven to be jokesters and social media savvy, which, together, solidifies their status as the coolest parents on the block. Hey girl, time to get comfortable.
