From Sofia Vergara to Melania Trump, Michael Kors Has Had the Most Epic Week Ever
Michael Kors has pretty much had the most sartorially satisfying week ever.
The designer can take credit for three of the slinkiest, sexiest, most standout looks at the annual, ultraglitzy Vanity Fair Oscar party: the black number worn by Priyanka Chopra, the plunging frock donned by Kerry Washington, and the second-skin dress on Sofia Vergara.
Oh, and that’s his sequined power suit that Melania Trump wore when her husband, President Trump, addressed the joint chambers of Congress on Tuesday. So Yahoo Style reached out to Kors to get his take on the women wearing his creations. It should be noted that he didn’t answer the question about Trump wearing one of his ensembles, but in a separate statement, Kors did say that she’s a frequent customer at his New York store.
As for Chopra: “This dress was powerful with a feminine edge, just like Priyanka,” Kors says. “She knows how to make a statement without going over the top.”
Vergara, notes Kors, “is never afraid to go for the glam. This abstract, metallic animal print was the perfect match for her. Scandal‘s Kerry Washington “proves that sexy can be sophisticated, and this dress was no exception.”
So did Kors know that all three superstars would be wearing his garb? “For an event like this, we do have some idea ahead of time. But you really never know until they step out of the car,” he says.
One of the things that makes Kors stand out is that his clothes look stellar on a multitude of bodies. He doesn’t just design for the size-zero contingent. So when he sees Vergara or Chopra wearing his creations, “I’m thinking that I’ve done my job right. I’ve always believed that my role as a designer is to make women look and feel like the best version of themselves. The clothes are the frame and the woman is the star.”
His Fashion Week show featured Ashley Graham, who was a standout. “My whole career, I’ve dressed a variety of women,” he says. “I’ve never designed with one body type or age or personal style in mind, and I wanted the runway to be a reflection of that.”
