Following Donald Trump’s remarks that she’s no longer a 10, Heidi Klum responded with a funny video message. But while she seemed to shrug off — literally — the arbitrary degradation, the model doesn’t believe the presidential candidate’s treatment of women is a laughing matter.
“Personally, I have no idea what I have to do with the election,” she said on Access Hollywood, appearing on the show with her America’s Got Talent co-hosts. "Why do I come into play with this election? Like, that doesn’t make sense to me, to be honest with you.“ (Side note: Klum is a legal immigrant, having become an American citizen in 2008 “for her children,” while retaining a passport from her native Germany).
"I was just making light of the situation because it was kind of funny, I thought, and I just thought: Make it even more funny,” Klum said of her response video, which showed the 42-year-old wearing a shirt with "10” on it and then having it ripped off by someone in a Trump mask, revealing a “9.99" underneath. “But really, the whole entire situation about women is not really funny — you know, to put a number on a woman.”
She added: “We juggle so many things and I feel that, you know, women who support their families, who have children, who make their lunches, drive them all over the place, work at the same time — I mean, we do so many things, so in my book, every woman is a 10.“
Klum is just the latest woman to come under attack by Trump in the few months he’s been campaigning for the country’s highest office. Of Rosie O’Donnell, the billionaire said, “Rosie is a very unattractive woman, both inside and out. And as hard as it is to believe, inside is probably uglier than outside, and that’s really saying something.” And on Megyn Kelly, whom he believed treated him unfairly in the first GOP debate, Trump told CNN, “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever.”
Defending himself just last week (pre-Klum), Trump told CNN, “I cherish women. I want to help women. I’m going to do things for women that no other candidate will be able to do.”
