Hijabi Model Halima Aden Is Taking Over Milan Fashion Week
Just days after making her debut on the Yeezy runway, Halima Aden is booking major gigs at Milan Fashion Week. On Wednesday, the 19-year-old breakout star walked in Alberta Ferretti and Thursday morning she lead the pack during the Max Mara finale wearing an impeccable camel coat and a hijab that perfectly matched.
Aden, who just signed with prestigious agency IMG, has spent Fashion Month so far in the company of names like Gigi Hadid, Sara Sampaio, and Elsa Hosk. There couldn’t be a better time for a young Muslim woman to make a name for herself.

Ferretti’s show was themed around female empowerment, and including a high fashion hijabi model is certainly a good start. The fashion community may be leading the inclusivity charge the rest of the world needs. Aden has already landed the cover of CR Fashion Book, now let’s get her on the cover of Vogue.
Aden is breaking boundaries both big and small. She spoke to New York about why she kept her braces on for one of the most important weeks in fashion. “You hear comments like Brace Face or Train Tracks. It can make you insecure about your teeth,” she says of modeling in metal. “So I thought, What a great way to show people I’m not perfect. My teeth aren’t perfect. But I’m still modeling.”
