This Houston Meteorologist Makes a Lot of the Clothing She Wears on TV
Lisa Vaughn is a Fox 26 Houston meteorologist — with a unique hobby. Along with her background in math and stats, Vaughn is also a talented seamstress who makes many of the dresses she wears on television.
The certified broadcast meteorologist shares many of her designs on her social media channels in posts that rack up hundreds of likes.
“I really started sewing a lot when I was in college,” Vaughn tells Yahoo Style. “For the last 10 or 12 years, I’ve been sewing. But I have a math and stats background — this is just my hobby.”
On Tuesday, Vaughn shared a selfie in which she wears a long-sleeved cloud-print dress she created for just $24.
“The cloud dress that I’m wearing today took me one day,” she says. “I actually made it on Sunday — it took me about four hours.” However, Vaughn says the time it takes her to make a dress varies.

She uses the hashtag #lisacouture in posts about her designs — something that started as a joke. “It’s a joke,” she says. “It’s not real. I don’t sell dresses. It’s a funny thing my sister and I made up.”
I made this dress. I call it #LisaCouture #winterSolstice #houston

She often posts different tops she made as well. The peplum style appears to be a favorite of the meteorologist’s.

In one Instagram post she shared — in which Vaughn is wearing a jumpsuit she created — she explained why she started sewing.

“I made this jumpsuit for about $10. But I feel like a billion dollars. People ask me why I started sewing. The answer is I was so broke but wanted nice stuff,” she captioned the post. As with this jumpsuit, Vaughn bases many of the looks she creates on affordable fashions.
Vaughn shared a post featuring a pink long-sleeved dress she created because the quality of a lookalike dress she owned that came from Target had deteriorated, and it was no longer in stock.

So what do her co-workers think about her knack for designing and creating? “They’re always impressed,” Vaughn shares. “Most people think that it’s so hard, and they say, ‘I would never be able to do that!’ And I’m like, ‘You totally can. Anyone can start.'”
Although not all the clothes she wears on television are her own designs, Vaughn says she occasionally gets a tweet or an email asking the brand of one of her pieces. While viewers seem to love her creations, Vaughn doesn’t have any plans to ditch her day job for dressmaking.
