Iggy Azalea Beefs With Steve Madden

At this point, celebrities should know that you can’t delete a Twitter rant or inappropriate Instagram fast enough—someone always sees it. On Thursday night, rapper Iggy Azalea went off on Steve Madden after a promotional photoshoot for their collaboration surfaced on their collaboration Tumblr page yesterday.

“I’ve been bamoozeled [sic] with a tumblr page where everyone wears socks and takes unintentional crotch shots on pool toys. I’m in shock,” Azalea tweeted, adding: “I worked really hard on the creative direction of both the shoes and the shoot I WAS involved with and in, (and now) it’s been tainted with these God awful images that Steve Madden took appon [sic] themselves to create and share without my knowledge. Gross gross gross.”

The images in question featured models from the neck down wearing crop tops, mini-skirts, and socks with sandals, standing near colorful inflatable pool toys. The images are hardly vulgar by today’s standards, barely even in poor taste, but Azalea didn’t hold back, and now both sides are dealing with the fallout. After deleting the offensive tweets, the rapper issued a lengthy apology on Instagram. She writes: “I’m an artist and I’m extremely passionate and emotional and crazy sometimes because I care ALOoOoot about this shit!.” She confirmed her love for Steve Madden—the company and the man—before adding, “I have 3 more seasons I’m making with these guys and I’m going to enjoy it.” A reminder, perhaps, that her petty histrionics on Twitter could cost her a lot of money in the long run. She ended with, “I just don’t support Jesus sandals WITH socks.”

Steve Madden, meanwhile, called the rant a “lovers quarrel.” The brand issued a statement confirming their mutual love for Azaelea. “ When you get two artists working together, sometimes there are fireworks. It’s our creative differences that allow us to design an incredible collection and we are looking forward to sharing it with the world.”
Though the spat doesn’t make either side look great, it does serve as great publicity for the collaboration, which hits stores today. Azalea would very much like for people to buy her shoes—just don’t pair them with socks.
