J.Lo’s 9-Year-Old Daughter Sewed a Custom Dress for Mom
Jennifer Lopez’s daughter is following in her mom’s footsteps — no, she’s not acting. Or singing. She’s designing clothes. Did you forget that J.Lo has a line at Kohl’s? Oh yeah. Well, her daughter, Emme, apparently has a knack for fashion as well.
On Thursday, Lopez talked about her 9-year-old daughter’s obsession with sewing during an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers. “She’s really into sewing,” the Shades of Blue actress said.
She thinks Emme’s interest is inherited — but not from her. “And it’s funny because my grandmother, my mom’s mom, was a seamstress her whole life, and she passed away just as I was pregnant, and I feel like her spirit or her soul is with Emme,” she explained.
Lopez continued, “Since about two years ago when [Emme] was 6, became obsessed with sewing. She sews on a sewing machine. And I can’t sew on a sewing machine.” Um… then how do your Kohl’s clothes get made, J.Lo?
As if that weren’t cute enough, Emme made her famous mom a dress for Christmas, but not without first asking her mom what her favorite color was — because nothing would be worse than gifting her with a dress in her least favorite hue. Smart girl. “And I was like, ‘Emerald green,’ and she’s like, ‘OK,’ and she goes out and shows me the material, and I’m like, ‘What are you doing?’” Lopez recounted.
During the holidays, Emme presented her mom with the finished product: an emerald green high-low dress. “It was short in the front and long in the back, and it fit me perfect up here,” she said smiling, gesturing to her shoulders. “She got my measurements. She was 8! I’m proud of her.”
Meyers then joked that Emme set the bar way too high. “What’s she gonna get you when she’s 17?” he asked. “She’s already blown it.” To which J.Lo responded the only way possible. She said jokingly, “couture.”
