Jasmine Tookes Is Wearing the Victoria's Secret Fantasy Bra for 'All the Girls in the World'
Victoria’s Secret announced Wednesday that the stunning Jasmine Tookes will wear this year’s Fantasy Bra during its annual fashion show, which is set to take place in Paris and air on Monday, December 5th. This year’s lingerie set, which was created for the retailer by accessories designer Eddie Borgo in collaboration with jeweler AW Mouzannar, is valued at $3 million and it took an astonishing 700 hours to make, as it weighs more than 450 carats.
Diamonds and emeralds set in 18-karat gold cover the Beautiful by Victoria’s Secret bra, which was custom fit to Tookes’s body. The 5′ 9″ Huntington Beach native has modeled for the brand for a number of years, but was only anointed as an Angel in 2015. Yahoo Style recently caught up with Tookes to discuss her reaction to finding out she’ll wear the bra this year, how she feels about the location of the show, and what is means to her being the third African American woman to wear the Victoria’s Secret Fantasy Bra.
Yahoo Style: How did you react when you found out that you had been picked to wear the bra?
Jasmine Tookes: I just immediately started crying. It was such a shock to me. I couldn’t believe that it was my chance to wear the bra.
How do you feel wearing it? Is it heavy?
I feel like $3 million bucks wearing this bra! It’s very beautiful obviously — it took 700 hours to create, and it was designed exclusively by Eddie Borgo for Victoria’s Secret. So i just feel very honored, and I feel like I could take over the world. It is heavy — it weighs more than 450 carats. It feels heavy for sure!
Did you reach out to any fellow Angels for advice when you found out you are going to wear it at the show this year?
I did. I was on set with Lily Aldridge and I asked her, “How do I walk down the runway? How did you feel?” She told me, “I cried a little bit before, but you just have to breathe and take it in and relax.”
Are you excited that the show is in Paris this year?
I’m very excited! It’s the first time the Victoria’s Secret show is going to Paris, so I think it will be a very magical show. The energy in Paris is so uplifting, and I think it’ll be awesome.
Definitely! Do you find it particularly important to have been chosen as an African American woman- considering Selita Ebanks and Tyra Banks are the only two African American models before you that have?
Yes, I feel like it’s a milestone for Victoria’s Secret for me to be wearing the bra as an African American. And I’m glad that I can represent that for them and for all the girls in the world.
