Jennifer Lawrence painted for Vogue's 125th anniversary issue

It’s a great feat to be chosen for the cover of Vogue‘s annual September issue.

Being the biggest and most bought issue of the year, the September cover usually stars a true A-lister. So it makes sense that the US-based magazine chose actress Jennifer Lawrence for their 2017 cover.

The 26-year-old star stars on not one cover, not two, but four equally exquisite fronts for the publication’s 125th anniversary.

Three of the covers are traditional photographs shot by some of the fashion industry’s leading photographers.

But the fourth marks a completely different move for Vogue. J Law was painted by artist John Currin in a vintage-style pose that mimics some of the first ever fashion magazines.

This is the first time the September issue has ever featured work by an artist – although painters including Salvador Dalí have lent their skills to Vogue in the past.

In fact, Vogue‘s history started with paintings with the first covers (dating 1892 until the late 1930s) being illustrated by artists.

The most glamorous cover, shot by Annie Leibovitz, sees Lawrence standing on a boat across from the Statue of Liberty. Wearing a gorgeous red Ralph Lauren gown, the image is true Old Hollywood.

Legendary photographer Bruce Weber took a much more candid shot, photographing the actress close-up with slightly bedraggled hair.

Dutch photography duo Inez and Vinoodh were responsible for the final cover which sees Lawrence in a gold sequinned Versace creation. With absolutely no backdrop, the actress steals the show.

In the accompanying interview, Lawrence opens up about her romantic relationship with director of her latest film ‘Mother!’, Darren Aronofsky.

She also admits to loving reality TV so much that she had to have a special ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ tent on set when some of the film’s intense scenes got too much.

“It was a tent that had pictures of the Kardashians and ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ playing on a loop — and gumballs,” the actress remembers. “My happy place.”
