Jennifer Lopez Opts to ‘Stand in the Light’ at People’s Choice Awards
Power to the people! That was the case on Wednesday at the 43rd People’s Choice Awards, where Blake Lively, the Rock, and Jennifer Lopez won the popular vote in entertainment. You saw their speeches. You admired their attire (or not). But here’s what you didn’t see behind the scenes.
Celebrating right away, This Is Us star Chrissy Metz hugged Lonnie Chavis, the youngster who plays Randall on the show. He beamed. Little wonder, given that the show just got renewed for another two seasons.
And then, for just about everyone, it was photo time. Host Joel McHale snapped a selfie with Scott Weinger from Fuller House before heading in to fulfill his duties. Grey’s Anatomy‘s Camilla Luddington (she’s only troubled on TV! ) arrived in a baby-bump-hugging black leather dress, and fans went nuts as her castmates took selfies on their way inside. Kristen Bell also stopped for fan photos.
Ruby Rose, meanwhile, dodged both selfies and press by mouthing, “I’m late,” and blowing kisses to fans.
And while Ellen DeGeneres, a perennial favorite, may be famous — very, very famous — she and Portia de Rossi arrived at the back entrance of the Microsoft Theater only to be told they too had to go through security and walk through metal detectors.
Meanwhile, don’t try to put J.Lo in a corner. After her win, the Shades of Blue star gave directions to members of the press. “You stand there, you stand there, I’ll stand in the light,” she said. She was making sure everyone got their questions in without her having to repeat herself three more times. Efficient and well-played, Ms. Lopez.
Lively, after her win for Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress, tried to quell the mania, ordering the screaming photographers to chill out by telling them, “I can hear you all.” Then, after a partial carpet appearance, she left.
Divorce star Sarah Jessica Parker, meanwhile, was rushing back to the East Coast for her twins’ piano concert on Thursday. She met fellow winner Melissa McCarthy backstage, and they formed their own mutual admiration society.
As for Blake Shelton, here’s how he said he planned on celebrating his win: “I’m probably going to be drinking, believe it or not.”
