Jonathan Anderson Would Rather Be Reading
Jonathan Anderson at Barneys New York.
On Monday night, designer of the moment Jonathan Anderson made a rare appearance on U.S. shores to herald the launch of the new Loewe shop-in-shop at Barneys New York. Aside from a new boutique that just opened in Miami, the shopping mecca is the only other retailer in the U.S. where one can shop the full breadth of the luxurious Loewe collection including men’s, women’s and accessories. “I’ve never done this before so it’s very exciting,” Anderson tells Yahoo Style. “I shop here all the time, and I was here this morning. It’s great.”
Milling around the second floor, all types—including top Barneys brass, designer/socialite Lisa Perry, editors galore, and selfie-seeking stragglers—greeted Anderson with palpable excitement. After all, not only is the Englishman being heralded for his work with Loewe, but also for his own eponymous line as well. (In terms of fashion accolades, his clothes are ranking in the “genius” level at the moment.)
As models walked around in his cool, louche creations, the 30-year-old designer told us that when he’s in New York, his favorite haunts were not bars or restaurants, but bookstores. “I love going to Printed Matter. Any rare book store, I’m there,” he tells Yahoo Style. “They love me coming because I’m in there for three hours each, going, ‘do I need this or that?’” A collector of the highest order, Anderson has got the transporting technique down pat. “I’m a shipper,” he says. “Find and ship.”
