Karl Lagerfeld Made Lily Allen Wear a “Very Funny Outfit”
When Karl Lagerfeld does something, he does it all the way. One need only look at a single Chanel show to understand how seriously the German-born designer takes a theme. So when Princess Caroline of Hanover asked the designer to “imagine” Monte Carlo’s annual Bal de Rose, which raises money for the Princess Grace Foundation, he took care of everything from the invitations to the napkins. Together, the two chose to pay homage to constructivism, the Russian art and architectural movement that emerged in the early 20th century favoring bright colors and geometric lines and shapes.
Even Lagerfeld, however, couldn’t take seriously the dress he made for performer Lily Allen. Last week, he told WWD, “She gets a very funny outfit.” Sure enough, the British singer took the stage in a shimmering hot pink robe with a massive headpiece on Sunday night. The hood overflowed with silk roses in varying shades of pink, propped up to frame her blonde bob.

Allen removed the coat half way through her performance to reveal a slinky pink and silver fringed dress in an old-Hollywood silhouette. Nothing funny about that!
